City commission delays floodplain rules into study session
Lawrence city commissioners postponed a Sept. 17 hearing on floodplain regulations to hold a study session and decide which version to advance. Commissioner Dunfield questioned the planning commission's criteria and urged hydrological proof before any new development alters flood elevations. Two revised versions exist, one narrowing the expanded floodplain and the other keeping rules largely intact but renaming the overlay district. A study session is set for Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m.

City approves Library Bar license amid landlord dispute
The City Commission granted The Library Bar and Grill a drinking establishment license over objections from building owner Carol Francis of 729 Mass. She cited damage to the historic 141 year old structure and a trash nuisance, while proprietor Shawn Schlegel defended the business. The license was approved unanimously, with commissioners calling it a landlord tenant issue for the court or property owner to resolve.
