Chamber Members Visit Ice Plant Tour
Chamber of Commerce members toured the Ice and Storage plant in a Know Your City event hosted by R. C. Rankin. He said the plant makes about sixty tons of ice daily with 2,800 tons in reserve. The process uses ammonia coils in double distilled water, cooling water to freeze, with lubricating oil causing a harmless taste. The plant began in 1897, now operates fifteen delivery outfits, and aims to standardize ice box service. Visitors saw the daily delivery room, freezing coils, engines, and storage rooms, ending with ice cold watermelons from the storage area.
