Charles Filla, pioneer merchant in Eudora since 1858, died at 11:50 this forenoon after bronchitis. He was 86 in February and survived by three daughters, Mrs. S J Lawson, Miss Molvis, and John Dolisi, all of Eudora. Filla founded the Pillar department store and was one of Douglas county's oldest active merchants.
British steamship Swiftwing and French barkentine General Archinard, both small vessels, have been sunk near London.
General Sibley and staff reviewed the line of regulars in Eagle Pass as Third Infantry led a three hour parade. Militia units followed with all men animals and equipment present. The event likely preceded Kansas regiments departing for San Antonio per last week’s orders.
