Hostage Situation Ends as Gunman Surrenders After 18 Hours
In South Lake Tahoe California a gunman in a poker dispute released hostages and surrendered after tear gas filled the Belmont Arms Apartments. James Locklear 24 exited onto a balcony with hands in the air ending an 18 hour siege during which one hostage George Staedler 21 died. Four others escaped unharmed and two released captives were treated for facial injuries. Police say Det. Paul Habert was wounded by gunfire at the apartment door.
