Midwest survey shows slight regional economic improvement
Mid-American Business Conditions index rose to 47.8 in August from 47.6, yet indicates slow regional growth. Manufacturing payrolls fell, with a 1.6 percent year over year decline and 22,000 jobs shed in the nine-state area. Market optimism and wholesale prices suggest modest inflation pressures ahead.
