Motel owner to stand trial in fatal stabbing case
Navinkumar Patel, 46, of Shawnee, bound over for trial on attempted first degree murder charges after waiving a preliminary hearing. He allegedly stabbed his wife twice in the abdomen at the Super 8 motel in Lawrence on June 24 after claiming she was fat while eating Cheerios. The victim survived, aided by an unknown man who gave first aid and called police. Patel reportedly handed the weapon to an officer and said, I stabbed her.
