Railfest revives steam era as families ride historic train
Ten year old Bella Otter enjoys a train ride from Baldwin City to Norwood during Railfest. Decked in Kansas University apparel, she exclaims old locomotives are awesome. The historic trip features a steam engine named Sadie pulling the train on a Saturday afternoon event.

Midland Railway Railfest Opens With Timed Steam Runs
Baldwin City hosts the Midland Railway Railfest at 1515 High St with steam trains at 9 am noon and 3 pm today and Monday and diesel trains at 11 30 am and 2 30 pm. Admission 20 for adults 10 for children steam and diesel combos 55. A steamer ride drew rail enthusiasts as part of Labor Day Railfest presented by Lehigh Valley Coal Company organizers.

Habitat dedicates 80th home in Lawrence
Habitat for Humanity of Lawrence dedicated its 80th house, a five bedroom Maple Lane dwelling for the Hameed family who emigrated from Nigeria in 2003. An imam led a prayer as tears and joy mixed with community pride. Earlier in the week a break in occurred, but the morning remained a celebration.
