A man identified as Martin R. Walker died in Gratiot County near Ithaca after a suicide attempt on his brush fire pile. A 13 year old girl claimed a Mexican boy insulted her near a wood camp. A mob allegedly forced nine Mexican men to whip the boy with knotted cords, an act said to have led to the boy's death hours later. Later the girl admitted fabricating the account and fear spread from Mexican residents.
Des Morves reports a long running feud between Hall and Brown over a hen turkey. On Sunday Hall fired on the Brown party near a highway line, wounding three and killing Hall who was shot through the lungs.
