Figures show decline in cocaine use nationwide
Washington AP reports that new DAWN data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse confirm a continued drop in cocaine related emergency visits. The 24 percent decline from 1989’s third quarter through the first quarter of this year marks progress in reaching affected populations, said director Charles Schuster.

Fire destroys Eudora lumberyard and depot buildings
A morning blaze at Eudora Lumber Co destroyed the yard’s two main 1868 and 1871 structures and six trucks, including a new 18‑foot flatbed. The fire also ruined the nearby depot leased by the lumberyard. Firefighters from multiple departments fought the flames, with control achieved around 5 a.m. No injuries reported.
