Adoptions rise in Kansas under Brownback push

Kansas data show 777 adoptions finalized in 2012 and 761 state adoptions in 2011, up from 721 in 2010 and below the 816 in 2009. Governor Brownback, who supports public adoptions, says progress brings closer to “forever families” though not all children find homes. Public adoptions cost little, private ones can reach 30000, and state tuition is offered for adopted youths over 16. About 900 children in state custody are at risk of losing parental rights, with 400 lacking adoptive ties.
