Lawrence library expansion plans face voters 18 million bond

Voters will decide Tuesday on an 18 million bond to expand the Lawrence Public Library at 707 Vermont. The project adds 20,000 square feet, doubles children's space and meeting rooms, adds a west drive through lane, a parking garage, 126 to 250 parking spaces, 100 public computers, an exterior plaza, and renovations citywide. The bond would take 20 years to retire with a 1.5 mill tax rise plus 0.5 mill for operating costs, on a $170,000 home adding about $39.10 yearly.
