Foundlings Posed A Mystery In Kansas City Home

Mr and Mrs Eugene L Parisse care for two foundlings a four year old boy and a three year old girl named Lisa who arrived with a man who disappeared. The children say no mother or father and mention a possibly troubled home before being left at the Parisses. Authorities say the case is not abandonment and advise waiting for the father to return.

Omaha World-Herald Sold to Local Firm in Omaha

The Omaha World-Herald was sold to Peter Kiewit Sons Co of Omaha. The price was not disclosed. The deal includes KETV and a medical office building. The World-Herald circulates about 252 000 daily and 265 000 on Sundays. Kiewit aimed to keep the paper in Omaha as a permanent investment.

Mrs. FDR’s Condition Remains Unchanged

New York report says Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, 78, seriously ill with anemia and a lung infection, remained unchanged. A family spokesman said her fever dropped and she was more alert, as she stays at home after leaving hospital October 18 following three weeks of treatment.

Ten Cuban Exiles Caught With Guns

Ten armed Cuban exiles were arrested aboard an unmarked 32 foot cabin cruiser on the Miami River en route to Biscayne Bay. The vessel had no registry number or name. Customs agents boarded the low riding ship and found carbines pistols and related equipment. All ten men were jailed and questioned.

Enrollment Shifts Describe Junior and Senior Class Totals

The junior class rose by 357 over last fall to reach a new total, while the senior class remains largely unchanged with 1 746 students, nine fewer than last year. Officials expect a sizable senior increase next year.

Turkeys Spill On Highway Near Lawrence After Trailer Breaks

About 300 turkeys from the Nebraska Turkey Growers Association were spilled onto U S 24 around 15 miles northwest of Lawrence when a trailer axle was torn out by a culvert. Leonard Clark and Joe Freeman of Gibbon Neb led the recovery as the birds headed to Thanksgiving markets.

More Topeka Area Units Shut as Unfit Dwellings

The Topeka city county health department placarded seven more vacant houses as unfit for human habitation under the minimum housing code. This brings the total placarded in six weeks to 21. Health officer Dr Otto Revenholt said placarding bars re occupancy unless the dwellings are improved to code.
