Flora said the moisture benefits the southeast while other areas saw lighter rainfall. Forecast calls for mainly cloudy weather with scattered showers and seasonable highs in the sixties.
Chicago stockyards face a shutdown threatening 25 000 workers as United Packinghouse Workers demand a 16 cent hourly raise. The firm offers a 4 to 5 cent increase, rejected by the union led by Frank Monaghan.

George Baxter Smith dean of the KU School of Education will give four talks within six hours at the Kanfas State Teachers association meeting in Wichita on November 1. The addresses will cover junior high, senior high teachers, alumni and a parent teachers group. Ella May Gilliland 91 mother of Wayne E. Gilliland Ottawa’s Herald managing editor died after months of illness at home near Ottawa, a longtime resident since 1868.
County Clerk T R Gerhart announced the names of five man receiving and counting boards for most Douglas County precincts in the November 5 election. Two precincts Lecompton and Pomore township will have five member boards handling both receiving and counting. Voting places will stay open from Ant to 6 p m.
