Several hundred students in old clothes formed a snake dance along Kansas Avenue, surrounding Mrs. Landon’s car and shouting football yells for Creighton University Washburn game.
Governor Alf Landon addressed 15,500 Madison Square Garden crowd in New York urging President Roosevelt to reveal his stance on NRA AAA and executive power. Miss Carlotta Witt, 32, of Para fould Arkansas, will undergo surgery to correct her heart and stomach position after a September 25 collision near Lawrence with a picnic truck carrying University of Kansas students. The accident injured several and killed two. Witt’s diaphragm was torn, allowing the stomach to push into the lung area and shift the heart. She has been in Lawrence hospitals since the crash.
PWA funded Eudora Raw river bridge repair set to begin by November 9 with final completion by September 1 1987. County officials expect possible earlier opening if weather cooperates. Leavenworth and Douglas counties awarded the contract to Mansman Construction Company of Kansas City Missouri for construction and painting of piers.
