Riot at Denver relief site as 400 strike agitators clash with police

A mob of about 400 strike agitators including many workers and alleged communists attempted to halt federal relief work near Denver on October 30. Rioting followed, with approx 30 shots fired. Patrolmen were injured and several agitators arrested. one man was shot, and a bicycle-car wreck and arson were reported as authorities dispersed the crowd. Leaders demanded removal of state official Shawver as relief funds and work cuts were debated amid calls to resume projects.

Bandits rob Illinois bank near Dillinger site

Chicago police hunt a nine man gang led by suspected public enemy No 1 George Nelson alias Baby Face after an 18750 theft at the Aetna State Bank on a North Side intersection. Seven entered the bank ordering 16 employees and 15 customers to lie down while two bandits looted teller cages. Miss Elsie Pasebach pressed an alarm before the gang fled in sedans. no shots were fired. The raid occurred a half block from the theater where John Dillinger was killed.

Two arrested in Dillinger jail escape probe

Crown Point jail warden Lewis Baker and fingerprint expert Ernest Blank were taken into custody by Deputy Attorney General Ray Baree for questioning in the Dillinger jail escape investigation.
