Buxton, jailed for the Mary A. Jones murder near Wagoner, confessed after a spree of obscene hypnotic letters from a supposed witch. The same scheme led to the victim’s ruin and a death by hanging. Fire at the Louis Terminal Association warehouse north of the Eads Bridge East St. Louis destroyed the building its contents and about sixty cars. Estimated total loss reaches 210000 with insurance coverage for stock and property. Fire spread quickly and caused extensive damage overnight.
