Independence Kansas October 2 A well to do farmer Harshfarger aged about 40 living six miles southwest of Independence reportedly hanged himself in his barn yesterday and his body was found this morning. He recently sold an eighty acre farm on contract for three thousand dollars and a nearby oil well discovery is thought to have emboldened remorse over the land sale.
William Razee purchased a team of mules from Peter Williams and, in a separate arrangement, secured Williams' wife to accompany the deal. Razee, a recent arrival, is said to have won the Williams family's favor within days and then proposed buying the wife as part of the transaction.
