The report shows funds in the Douglas county treasury on October 27 1879 with overdrawn County General fund and School District balances. Oliver Barter county treasurer certifies accuracy. notary Albert G. Brooks swore to the statement. signatures include officials from Lawrence and capital bank marks.
Lawrence Lodge No 1 Ancient Templars held the first public reception at their hall over Leis drug store. The event featured prayers, songs by a small choir, readings, guitar solos, poems, and social hour. Members claimed over 100 in the local order and a drive to attend a November meeting on the court house drive well issue.
The Meeker women and children are safe at Chief Auray's house nine miles below Los Pinos Col via Del Norte Col as General Adams halts Merritt's advance. St Louis notes the fifth annual convention of the Women's National Christian Temperance Union at First Baptist Church with plans for three daily sessions and 200 delegates from outside Illinois expected to attend.
Advices from Grayson Kentucky report the Holbrooks have ordered the Underwood women and children to depart by Sunday and posted notices warning testimony before the grand jury regarding the Underwood killing.

New York October 28 Markets opened firm with stock advances of 1 to 1 1 2 percent led by coal shares. Eries Lake Shore Wabash and coal stocks softened with a 3 to 4 1 2 percent drop before a mid day firmer tone returned and a partial recovery followed. Government bonds remained steady while railroad issues showed activity and irregular price moves. Sterling and mercantile paper quoted with low discount rates and silver under London prices.
In St Louis on Oct 28 cattle supply light but demand good with steady high values. Heavy shipping steers 4.10 to 6.40, light shipping 3.50 to 4.00, stockers 3.62 to 3.25, rose-fed Texans 2.25 to 3.12, natives 2.00 to 3.00. Hogs active and higher with mixed packers 4.05 to 3.85, Yorkers 3.65 to 3.50, butchers 3.00 to 4.10. Sheep steady with prime 3.60 to 4.15. Receipts Cattle 1,300 Hogs 6,100 Sheep 0. Exports and shipments noted.

Cattle eased under liberal supply with exports at 8.50 to 24.85 and feeders firm while westerns weakened. Hogs opened dull with price declines of about ten cents. mixed types 3.60 to 3.85 and common 3.70 to 3.90, many unsold. Sheep dull and weaker at 2.00 to 8.50 with light receipts and no shipments.
Kansas City stock market notes cattle demand from shippers feeders and packers with Colorado Texas supplies. Native feeders and steers range prices from 2.40 to 4.00 dollars, Texas steers around 2.40 to 3.40, native cows 2.25 to 2.60. Hogs opened firm then fell slightly with day’s range 3.25 to 5.50, bulk around 3.35 to 4.0, receipts listed. Sheep market dull with no sales or receipts recorded.
Kansas City produce figures show corn receipts 1,002 bushels and shipments 5,406 with in store 69,494. Market lower, No 2 mixed 80 cent bid. Quats No 2 at 28 cents. Butter choice scarce and firm at 2 cents, medium 12 to 15 cents. Eggs October eggs firm at 15 cents per dozen.
New York market news shows unsettled conditions across flour wheat and corn. Prices move for flour from $5.00 to $7.75 per barrel and for wheat from $1.28 to $1.38 a bushel. Rye and oats trend lower while corn demand remains active with mixed price ranges across grades.
