Plan B unlikely if sales tax fails for police HQ project
City officials warned there is no guaranteed backup plan if the proposed 0.2 percent sales tax to fund a $28 million police headquarters fails at the November ballot. Without the sales tax, a roughly 3 mill property tax increase would be needed to fund the project, potentially staying for about 20 years. The city has not released new projections and says it would reassess if voters say no.
