War Crimes Court acquits 13 Nazis in Nazi planning case
An American war crimes court acquitted 13 German field marshals and generals of plotting to start World War II and conspiracy. Field Marshal Wilhelm von Leeb was convicted of crimes against civilization, for involvement in Hitler's invasion plans. Field Marshal Hugo Sperrle was acquitted on all counts. A nine month trial concluded with verdicts after a lengthy judgment read by Presiding Judge John Young and colleagues.

Emporia Kansas October 27 The Citizens National Bank faced a vault lockout when the combination failed. Two other Emporia banks advanced $30,000 to keep operations normal. Auto plates due for 1949 license sales expect arrival
The 1949 car and truck license tags, due since June, are expected to arrive at the county treasurer's office any day. They cannot be sold until January 3. About 15,000 tags are ordered and will be delivered from the state penitentiary. Plates are issued in numerical order and stacked so clerks can verify each tag. Aluminum plates feature black figures and read The Wheat State. One plate per vehicle.
