Murderer Confessed to Kansas City Farm Murders
Kansas City Kan October 26 James McMahon confessed last evening that he murdered his sister Rose McMahon and Mrs. Van Royen and his brother, Van Royen, on a farm west of Kansas City. A longstanding family quarrel led to the killings. McMahon killed Van Royen in a wood and later shot his sisters at the Van Royen home. Fearing mob violence, authorities rushed McMahon and his brother Patrick and farm hand Patrick Lamb to Lansing in automobiles. The mob’s cries filtered through jail bars as the prisoners were removed. McMahon claimed sole responsibility and exonerated his brother. Prosecutor Taggart said charges might be brought against both brothers. McMahon’s confession followed his admission to a friend about the hideout revolver and items taken from the Van Royen home. Sheriff Becker arrested James McMahon, who then aided the case, leading to arrest of Patrick McMahon and Lamb. The three-hour interrogation ended with McMahon’s full confession.
