Advance voting open across Douglas County sites

Registered voters may cast ballots 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse and several sites open this weekend and next week. The county clerk mailed information brochures to households detailing advance voting, in person voting, and the new photo ID law, with the douglascountyelections site for more details. Election Day is Nov. 6.

Trial dates set in abuse case at Walmart parking lot

Aldolfo Gomez 52 and Deborah Gomez 43 of Northlake Illinois face two counts of child abuse and five counts of aggravated child endangerment. Aldolfo's jury trial is Jan 7 and Deborah's Feb 4, each for five days, after officers found two bound children ages 5 and 7 in their vehicle at 550 Congress Parkway Lawrence.
