College football breathers lose favor across leagues

A column argues that so called breather games waste time and money as colleges shift toward proper matchups. Smaller schools fear tougher gates from bruising trips, larger programs seek to stay in their class, and fans dislike lopsided, sparring schedules.

Big colleges should play big colleges, says coach policy

The piece traces a shift as giants in college football favor facing peers over easy early-season games. It cites Knute Rockne, Dartmouth's Jackson Cannell, and Purdue records, noting 36 straight games without a shutout and Pardonner’s 16 of 17 extra point kicks as indicators of evolving strategy and scoring resilience.
