A large gathering at the Court House adopted a pledge to support the Douglas county Republican ticket. Oliver Barber chaired the meeting with E A Fisher and Thacher as secretaries. A plan to form a more perfect organization included pausing to sign the pledge at Frazer's Hall on October 28 at 7 pm.
A Bohemian man named Frank Jipslak was found near Mud Creek bridge last Thursday night with head and shoulders on the bank and his body in the water. He was barely alive when discovered. Mr. A. Thomas took him home, warmed him, and brought him to the city yesterday, turning him over to authorities. Officer Rheinschild, though limited by language, obtained the man s account of events.
A New York cigar maker, about thirty five, traveling with two suits and funds, was robbed of his satchel near Kansas City. Penniless and unable to speak English, he wandered until Mud Creek. Memphis reports a cold, frostily morning with a 32 1/2 degree thermometer reading as the city’s health board proclaims the 1879 yellow fever epidemic ended. The note warns of remaining cases but says no widespread spread risk if households follow ventilation and sanitation guidance.

Kansas City market update for October 25 shows wheat receipts 21,242 bushels and shipments 24,755 with in store 48,469 and prices around No 2 at 1.10 quarter plus. Corn receipts 10,551 and shipments 4,605 with in store 53,552 and mixed 82 1 32 1 2 cents. Oats No 2 at 29 bid, rye bid 26 7 0 cents, eggs 1 cent higher, butter firm 20 to 22 cents, stock market cattle steady as usual.
Saturday market saw light demand for feeders with fair ship receipts. Native feeders brought 2991.30 with Colorado steers around 2.40. Texan steers 2.40. receipts 810, shipments 624. Hogs rose with prices near 3.12. receipts 688, shipments varied. Sheep dull with no sales. Colorado wethers firm at about 2.25. receipts 600, shipments 140.
