A federal jury in Manhattan found former Adidas executive James Gatto, Christian Dawkins, and Merl Code guilty of fraud in a corruption trial. Prosecutors said the scheme paid families of top recruits to steer them to programs backed by Adidas, risking future revenue and sponsor deals for players.
University of Kansas basketball coach Bill Self spoke in a written statement denying any improper inducements in recruiting players. He said his staff have not offered incentives and are unaware of third party involvement, reaffirming commitment to NCAA rules and integrity.
KU is evaluating its relationship with Adidas following the fraud convictions of two former Adidas employees tied to a pay-for-play college basketball recruiting scheme. Officials cite staffing gaps delaying records on an unexplained 1.5 million dollars linked to Adidas.
A Public Policy Polling survey of 698 voters conducted Oct 19 20 finds Kris Kobach 41 percent Laura Kelly 41 percent and independent Greg Orman 10 percent with 6 percent undecided. Margin of error is 3.7 percent. The poll was commissioned by Western States Strategies.
