KU Replant Mount Oread aims to close tree gap
Kansas University faces a growing gap between trees lost and trees replaced as the Replant Mount Oread initiative plans a tree planting event next week. Project coordinator Jeff Severin notes losses of 80 to 90 trees annually with only about 50 replacements, citing storm damage disease construction and aging as main causes. In 2013 KU removed 71 trees and planted 52. 2012 saw 87 removed and 42 planted.
