The Penny Ready-Mixed Con crete and Construction Co. Inc. opened a Baldwin plant to serve Baker University dormitory work and local home and farm projects. The plant produces about 40 cubic yards per hour, about half of the Lawrence units, and is two blocks south of the Santa Fe depot. Stan Penny directs the Lawrence plants, Junius Penny heads the Emporia unit, and John Lawrence manages Baldwin.

Six Guardsmen Killed In Train and Truck Wreck
A troop train carrying 403 members of the 32nd Infantry Division Wisconsin National Guard crashed into a 10 ton gravel truck near Miles City Montana. Six guardsmen were killed and eight train cars derailed. the Red Arrow Division members were not seriously injured. The wreck left two derailed cars telescoped across Milwaukee Road tracks two miles east of Miles City.

Ray Teagarden 64 of LaCygne, chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Grange, suffered a severe heart attack Monday night in Lawrence and was moved to Paola Hospital after initial treatment. Grange master Harry C. Colglazier said he was resting and not receiving visitors during the State Grange meeting.

Speeder Fined Loses License for 30 Days
Edward Rychel, 23, of Kansas City Kansas, was fined 125 dollars and sentenced to 30 days in jail for speeding up to 105 mph and running a red light.
