Paris October 25 Russia vetoed a six power compromise to end the Berlin blockade in the United Nations Security Council. The vote was six in favor two against with Ukraine and Russia opposing. Western powers Britain France and the United States backed the compromise while Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Vishinsky defended the veto amid behind the scenes talks. Six powers Canada China Argentina Syria Belgium and Colombia sought mediation as the council adjourned for further diplomacy.
