Chilled Fliers Rescued After Nine Days in Yukon Wilderness

Three SAS pilots Thor Trontveit Rolf Storhavg and Einer Pedersen survived a forced landing 90 miles southwest of Inuvik after their engine failed on a Fairbanks to Inuvik flight. They endured zero to ten degrees below weather, built a lean-to, rationed food, and were spotted by a Wein Air Alaska plane. Storhavg's father Odd greeted his son on arrival.

Mortar Shells Begin Production at Kansas Plant

Production of 81 mm mortar shells started Monday at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant east of Parsons. Output will be limited initially under plant operator National Gypsum Co. manager Robert E. Scriffes. This marks the second item produced there after auxiliary charges for fuzes and signals further items to come as renovations finish. The 13,000 acre facility has operated in WWII and during the Korean conflict, with last week’s start delayed by mechanical issues.

Parents Receive Posthumous Awards for Son Dennis

Mr and Mrs William R Dennis of 1311 R I Street receive posthumous honors for their son Seaman William Russell Dennis III who died March 18 in Vietnam. Chevrolet Recalls About One Million 1965 Cars

Chevrolet Division of General Motors recalls 1,143,000 standard sized 1965 Chevrolets built between September 1964 and May 1965 to replace the steering idler arm assembly at no cost to owners. Vandals Strike Overnight At 3 Lawrence Businesses

Overnight vandalism damaged three Lawrence firms with broken front windows causing about $951.30 in losses. Patchen Electric, A&P Super Market, and Wilson Glass Co. reported damaged windows, while police logged additional thefts from autos and other property around the city.

Teachers Approve Fund Donation to Support Rights

Hack UF plan outlines drive to raise 108000 in Lawrence

Al Hack chairing the Lawrence United Fund business division told Rotary Club that 710 firms in Lawrence will be solicited by nine civic clubs. Last year business gifts totaled 18000 of the 102000 overall, and the new goal is slightly over 108000 with individual contributions expected to rise. Lawrence High Students to Attend Emporia Convention

Twelve Lawrence High School students will travel to Emporia Friday and Saturday for the annual Business Education Club of Kansas convention. There is no City Commission town hall tonight and the next session is next Tuesday at West Junior High School. Black Jack Club Act Set for Re-Hearing

A District Court hearing on a motion to dismiss a civil suit filed by the Black Jack Community Club of Baldwin against Baldwin Unified School District No. 348 and Dale Brecheisen is rescheduled for 10 a.m. October 30. The suit argues the Black Jack group is the owner of the Black Jack Church property and alleges Brecheisen or accomplices unlawfully entered the premises on October 8 causing irreparable damage.

Nepalese PR man tours U S to learn and share

Shyam Wagley a Nepal native and US Information Service public relations officer visits Lawrence for three days as part of a three month tour to observe American life and media. Tornado Touches Down Near Wentzville Missouri

A tornado struck the western edge of Wentzville damaging the Dog N Suds stand across from Wentzville High School and overturning several house trailers. A woman inside the roadside stand was unconfirmed. Widespread damage occurred north of Springfield with torn trees, signs, and a toppled well house near Willard.
