Sheriff Office reviews protocol after deputy inmate sex case
The Douglas County Sheriffs Office says it is reviewing its work release policies after allegations that a deputy exploited the program to have consensual sexual encounters with a female inmate. Spokeswoman Kristen Channel stressed the department’s concern and commitment to public safety while clarifying how the program should operate. Former deputy Mario J. Godinez, 47, of Lawrence, is charged with unlawful sexual relations in connection with the case.
