Compton’s downtown Lawrence project reaches new height
Compton, a major landlord and head of First Management Inc, celebrates a multi‑use 7‑story building in downtown Lawrence. The 901 Building will house Next Level Fitness on the ground floor with a private training unit, a public fitness center, a bistro, and 10,000 square feet of office space on the second floor. Floors three through seven will offer 11 apartments each, with access to an adjacent garage. Tenants begin moving in November with 55 units completed by December, and the project is 71 percent pre leased. Compton plans to relocate company offices if a new tenant or buyer is found and envisions further development on the northeast corner. The hotel and apartment project near Ninth and New Hampshire faces Historic Resources Commission review amid local neighborhood concerns. Compton insists the downtown transformation is unfolding, calling the intersection a potential new landmark known as Compton’s Corner.
