Detroit reports Dr. Jean Piccard and Mrs. Piccard weathered a rough landing after an eight hour ascent to about 40 000 feet. The balloon and gondola escaped serious damage though the craft tangled in tree tops near Cadiz. Witnesses and witnesses described the landing as safe with the couple unhurt and planning to seek a hotel as crowds dispersed.

Captain James and Amy Morrison, who previously led as far as Baghdad, were forced to abandon the contest in Allahabad due to engine failure.
