London October 23 reports novelist George Moredith slipped on a sidewalk and broke one of his shin bones. He received immediate medical attention and is described as resting with a leg in a cast.
Newsreel from Oct. 23 reports a flawless naval review with 308 ships, including captured Russian battleships, led by the emperor aboard Acéma. Meanwhile in St. Petersburg the rail strike worsens, paralyzing traffic and severing links to Kharkoff and Donetz coal regions.
The president's special train crossed from Georgia into Alabama and will stay in the state until tomorrow night. He plans to speak in Mobile at 4:30 this afternoon and remain two hours for a speech.

Topeka October 23 The state equal suffragists hold their annual convention in Lawrence. The association grew from about 400 members to 674. Officers elected for the coming year are Mrs Roxana E Rice Lawrence president Miss Helen Kimber Parsons vice president Miss Melen N Backer Delphos secretary Mrs C B Moffran Enterprise treasurer Mrs W A Johnston Topeka and Mrs Nannie K Garratt Wichita national executive committee member. The next meeting will be held at Cottonwood Falls.
Fort Scott October 23 preliminary hearing in the Riggin case ended with Mrs. Riggin held to the district court without bond on murder in the first degree. Her husband Georges W. Riggin was released. Local ads note gas stoves and supplies at Eckes Economy Store and other varied notices.
William McCamish, a Kansas City lawyer, was appointed special assistant attorney general for Wyandotte County by the Kansas attorney general. He has assisted the Kansas State Temperance Union in crusading against “joints” in Kansas City.
