One Whale Presumed Dead in Arctic Rescue Effort
In Barrow Alaska a California gray whale named Bone is presumed dead after being separated from companions Crossbeak and Bonnet for over two weeks. Eskimo volunteers aided by de-icers and a distant helicopter worked to open breathing holes and move the whales toward open water.
