Attack at Turkish Embassy Kills Vienna Ambassador
Three gunmen entered the Turkish Embassy in Vienna at noon and killed Ambassador Danis Tanaligil. They fled in a white Mercedes-Benz, with officials saying the attackers spoke English with a Greek accent and were described by Turkish diplomats as English speaking Greeks. Police sought the getaway car and waited for identification of the killers’ nationality.

Funds approved to create Constant Park in Lawrence riverfront plan
Lawrence mayor announced funds from the late J L Constant will finance Phase I of Constant Park land purchases between Vermont Sixth and the Kansas River. The project links with Riverfront Park along the river levee using Army Corps of Engineers funds. Phase I covers commercial land Endowment land and an empty Tennessee lot with five houses to follow as they become available.
