Forty Hour Work Week Affects Midwest Workers
The 40 hour work week under the fair labor standards act will affect 1,338,000 employees and 37,777 firms across Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, and Wyoming. Missouri leads with 602,400 workers and 12,400 firms. The act applies to establishments engaged in interstate commerce or manufacturing for it. Some firms may extend 42 hours for one week before the new limit takes effect. Midwest totals include Iowas 255,000 employees and 9,033 firms, Kansas 200,400 and 7,135, Nebraska 118,200 and 5,130, Colorado 123,800 and 3,337, Wyoming 38,700 and 672.
