CAC chairman seeks quarterly talks with city commission

CAC chairman Jack Harris plans to ask city commissioners to establish quarterly meetings with CAC representatives to improve communications. A study of possible uses for the 1928 and 1937 sections of the former Lawrence Memorial Hospital building is in prospect, with no tearing down planned if suitable uses are found. Regents probe possible overcharge of student union fees

A Wichita State University student leader raised the possibility that six state universities collected more than the $5 per semester limit for student union operations. Hannes Zacharias said as much as 2 million dollars at WSU may have been collected since 1970 and Steve Leben cited up to 350000 dollars this fiscal year. Regents officials voiced uncertainty awaiting review of the 1941 law and current fee regulation.

Former KSU official Albert Pugsley drowns in Florida

Albert Leroy Pugsley, 68, former vice president for administration at Kansas State University, disappeared while fishing near his Atlantis home and was found dead. Autopsy confirms accidental drowning. Born in Woodbine Iowa, he joined KSU in 1943 as structural engineering professor, became VP for administration in 1963, later led Youngstown University, retired 1973. Services held in Lincoln Nebraska. burial in Woodbine.

A CH 53 helicopter carrying 5 crew and 34 passengers crashed on Mindoro during Fortress Lightning exercises near Subic Bay. At least 10 Marines were killed with others in critical condition. several wounded were treated at Subic Bay and Clark bases. Names withheld pending family notices.
