Gov. William Avery announced the appointment of District Judge Frank R. Gray of Lawrence to the Kansas Judges Retirement Board. Gray, 57, will replace Robert Kaul, recently named to the Kansas Supreme Court, and continues serving in the 41st Judicial District covering Douglas County.

Veale Speaks to Sertoma Members in Kansas District

Second LBJ Barbecue Set for November Fifth Here
The second annual LBJ barbecue is planned for November 5 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Dr. Richard Nelson, Democratic County Chairman, announced the plans at the Douglas County Democratic Club meeting at Pizza Hut. State Sen. Richard Liebert spoke on Democratic opportunities and current issues. The next Democratic Club meeting will be November 16, per president Al Hicks.

Oil Painting Stolen From KU Residence Hall
A $50 oil painting, about 10 years old with a carved brown frame, depicting a fall scene with a sycamore tree and a bird dog, was stolen from the Fireplace Room at Gertrude Sellards Pearson Hall. It disappeared between 8:30 a.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the room is reportedly never locked.
