Kansas Defeats Aggies 7 To 0 In Close Contest

Kansas Jayhawks edge Texas A&M Aggies 7 to 0 at Manhattan on a late fourth quarter drive. Harald Hauser scored the touchdown on a winning pass from captain Lawrence with about one minute left. Edgar Schmidt added the extra point. The game featured a punting duel through the first half and a key 55 yard return eventually waved off on a fumble, with both teams threatening into the final period.

Britain’s drink bill cut by almost half since 1920

At a Band of Hope conference in Northampton England, Angus Watson, president of the United Kingdom Band of Hope Union, said Britain’s drink bill fell from £326,000,000 in 1920 to £300,000,000 in 1927, with £137,000,000 in 1927 from inland revenue taxes. The group urged one million more abstinence pledges as the Sterling city commission opens an office of matron of public dances to supervise conduct at all dances.

Ottawa Highway 73-W Celebration Delayed to November 20

Kansas and neighboring state officials were to attend a national meeting in Chicago the week of November 12. The completion celebration for Highway 73-W, the first cross state hard surfaced road, has been postponed from November 15 to November 20. The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce Good Roads Committee announced the change alongside the event sponsorship.

The first copies of the University of Kansas directory were completed this afternoon by the Journal World press and will be distributed at the school next week. Nearly 300 attended the third annual banquet at First Methodist Church as Lloyd Houston, toastmaster, outlined Scout goals. Navy Stragglers Arrested in Baldwin County

Stragglers from a battleship were arrested in Baldwin last night by Sheriff Ray Corn on charges of being stragglers for the United States navy. The men, including Daly, Lucas, Baldwin, and J. I. rd ng, were jailed in Douglas County and to be turned over to navy officials in Kansas City, Missouri Monday. They said they left their ship in Galveston Texas. A straggler is described as one who has not been absent from his ship long enough to be a deserter.

Gas attack drives Bassett Cafe workers to flee

Workers at the Bassett Cafe in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street were exposed to sulfur dioxide when a pipe in an electric refrigerator broke yesterday afternoon. Fire damages home on Massa chusetts street

Fire of undetermined origin heavily damaged the residence of Zeno Rogers at 1525 Massachusetts street last night. Firemen arrived as flames shot from the roof and, with spectators and police help, removed most of the furniture to save contents.
