Final Salvation Army Meeting Tonight in Elks Club

Youth Dies Trying to Board Rock Island Train

John Vincent Smith 17 or 18, of Sioux City Ia, was killed Wednesday night while attempting to beat a freight train home. His father D FE Smith arrived to take charge of the body. He had been in Wichita six weeks visiting relatives and working odd jobs. He planned to return by riding the rails and had written his parents Sunday of returning that day. He served in the coast artillery during the war and had ties to the Sioux City National Guard. The body would be taken home for funeral arrangements.

Car stolen by three armed men near Six Corners

A Kansas City driver named Peterson reported three young men forced him from his car, bound him to a pole, and robbed him at Six Corners. Police pursued a car matching the description toward Lawrence, with Dowers and Silverthorn leading the chase. The victim freed himself, called police, and reported the robbers fled toward Bonner Springs then toward Lawrence.

Wabash wreck near Williamsfort blamed on loosened rail

Conductor Frank W Hulbust of Detroit and several passengers believe a loosened spike caused the Wabash bound passenger train No 2 wreck near Williamsfort Indiana. The crash killed six or seven people and injured seven others as several coaches burned. Some riders say they saw spikes removed while others doubt the maintenance of signals. The University Commons in Lawrence offers three services including a seventy five cent table dinner and optional 10 cent table service.
