Lawrence moves to Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado through A T & 8 F B K on October 16 and November 6 7. The notice promises low rates with small down payments and seven year balance at 6 percent. It touts land offers where crop failures are unknown and lists crops and alfalfa yields to attract homeseekers.
The Board of Health voted to reopen parts of city schools next Monday. The High School and the seventh and eighth grades will resume on Monday, with lower grades remaining closed until further orders. No new cases have appeared recently and quarantines are being lifted in many areas, though some risk remains.
Gov Folk arrived at noon and spoke to a large audience in South Park despite a strong wind. Earlier citizens dined with him and the reception showed strong support for a man who does things. No new diphtheria cases were reported today. Nine cards were lifted, leaving fifty four cases still in guaranting.
Albert Croisant president of Crosarut Bowmen Stationery company was mortally wounded by his brother Edward in St Louis on Locust and Fourth streets. Edward claimed a hypnotic influence over Albert and was arrested after the shooting as local authorities investigate motive and context.
Oct. 20 report states interior damage is slow to come in but believed extensive. Latabano reports wrecks and drownings of savco men. American steamers wrecked and many houses destroyed. About two hundred people are homeless.
A strong wind toppled walls of the Grand Opera House on Mission Street near Third, causing the collapse of several buildings. Three men were killed as debris fell during the incident following the great fire.
The body of Charles H Stevenson an attorney was found early today at the bottom of the freight elevator shaft in the rear of 96 Washington Street. Investigators initially thought he fell but later concluded he was roughed and murdered.
Newspaper report describes a severe storm at sea that sank barges on the east coast extension work. Barge No 4 suffered a direct hit at 5 am Thursday with 30 to 40 men killed. Nine other barges with crews are missing, feared lost. A surviving engineer, W P Dusenbury, was rescued by the Austrian steamer Jennie and details the catastrophe near the Yatama coast about miles from Key West.
Two propositions will be put to voters in Douglas County at the coming election. One seeks to erect a county jail and the other to adopt the High School provisions known as the Barnes law. The jail measure appears popular with little organized opposition. the Barnes law has seen limited discussion and may fail by default. Five men were shot at a dug out in a St Joseph suburb early today. Two may be fatally wounded. Oscar Luchel escaped and is being pursued by police.
A cablegram from Havana says the Marine camp suffered slight damage with no casualties. all other army transports sent with troops and supplies have been accounted for except Robert Wright and Lauder. In London, McFadyn & Co, Arbuthnot & Co Bankers of St Madras suspend payment. the amount involved is unknown. William J Bryan toured northern Colorado delivering addresses in La Salle, Greely, Fort Collins, and Boulder.
Fire started in a booth connected with the street fair on Mayo Street between Sirton and Seventh in Kansas City Kansas. Wind hindered efforts, damage estimated over 150000, business district briefly threatened, flames fought by local fire crews as a high wind complicated control.
