Jails Overcrowded in Douglas County and Lawrence
The Douglas County and Lawrence municipal jails run at or above capacity with 27 inmates in the county jail, four fewer than Monday. The city jail holds 12 juveniles and seven adults, with 14 bunks but 19 capacity. Inmates sleep on floors with extra mattresses as needed.
HJC to Crown Homecoming Queen Tonight
One of five Haskell Indian Junior College candidates will be chosen as the 1971 queen tonight. The winner’s name will be revealed Saturday night. Autopsy Planned In Shawnee County Traffic Death
Theodore M. McNeive a 67 year old Topeka resident died after a two vehicle crash on U S 24 near Midland two miles northwest of Lawrence. He was a passenger in an eastbound car driven by his brother Harry A McNeive 55 of Kansas City Missouri. The driver of the westbound car Richard Cabana 23 of North Glenn Colorado sustained injuries and was in fair condition. Funeral services for McNeive are pending at Brennan Funeral Home Topeka. The death marks the 13th traffic fatality in Douglas County for the year.

Ordeal in Cave Survived by Man
