Dianne Ensminger, Ballard Community Services president and CEO for about 15 years, will resign November 1 to focus on breast cancer treatment. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in June. Ballard board president Brad Finkelder will lead a post‑vacancy search starting after the new year as staff take on more duties in the interim.

The World Company announces 122 years of in house production will end with the Massa chusetts Street plant closing January 14 2014 and printing shifted to the Kansas City Star in Missouri. Co presidents Dan Simons and Dolph Simons III cite Gannett ending USA Today printing and industry moves to larger plants as factors. 33 jobs will be eliminated though delivery times will not change. Other weekly papers will print in Independence Missouri at The Examiner facility.
