Three Die in Hercules Plant Rocket Fuel Blast
A Hercules Powder Co plant blast near Salt Lake City killed three men Larry Larsen 26 Charles Butsler 30 and Grant C Terry 36 and injured 18 others. The explosion toppled a 20 by 30 foot building used for solid fuel prep and damaged nearby structures. The cause is under investigation and production for Polaris and Minuteman missiles will continue.

Czech Attache Wounded After High Speed Car Chase
A black limousine owned by Czechoslovakia was pursued by three New Jersey State Police cars for 19 miles into Pennsylvania at speeds near 110 mph. The Czech attache to the U N, Karel Zizka, was wounded critically, possibly by himself, and taken to St Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. State police report he fired after being ordered to show empty hands and shot himself as he was wounded.

A 29-year-old Lawrence man, Max Logan, suffered second degree burns to face and hands when a 220-volt electrical box shorted in the basement of the Douglas County State Bank at 9th and Ky Streets. He was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The box will be replaced. Logan works for Harris-Barnard sign company.

School Food Aid Totals in Kansas
The State Department of Education reported 11.3 million spent in Kansas last year on school lunches including food, equipment and services. About 80 percent of food funds stayed local while federal donations supplied large quantities of flour beef and turkey. Some 31.5 million lunches included milk from local dairies and 3,500 people were employed with total wages of 3.25 million dollars.

Crushed Miner Found as Search Continues at Velie Lion Mine
In Cardin Oklahoma a cave in at the Velie Lion mine trapped four miners. Jim France 53 was found dead near a loader while William Wilson 43 and Buck Woods 36 aided victims. Taylor Smith 48 was freed and hospitalized in satisfactory condition.
