DeSoto Plans Bond Vote For New School Buildings

DeSoto district plans a 395000 bond to finance a grade school building expansion and site purchase for a future high school. Superintendent Floyd Talley says the six grade elementary, three year junior high, three year high school plan may be adopted as consolidation proceeds. A site south of Bonner Springs is under option for a new six room kindergarten and elementary building with no date set for the bond.

Lawrence Dairy Milk Prices Rise One Cent Per Quart

In Lawrence the dairy trade raised milk prices by one cent per quart, with by products up accordingly. Half gallons bought in stores climbed from 41 to 43 cents, while home-delivered half gallons rose from 43 to 45 cents. Two Men Trapped In Mine Cave-In

Cardin Oklahoma AP reports two men trapped in a dirt fall at a zinc mine near Cardin as rescue teams struggle to free them. A third man, Taylor Smith of Picher, was pulled from the shaft and hospitalized in Miami Oklahoma. about 50 workers labored to reach the trapped pair of Bill Williams and Jim France in the Velie Line shaft.

Commissioners paused during discussion to back Owens and approved resolutions for paving Lawrence Avenue and other Pioneer Ridge streets. Born in Richland, Shawnee County, he graduated in 1939 and served as a Navy chief petty officer from 1943 to 1944. Since 1945 he has run Owens Flower Shop and Greenhouses at 15th and N. Y. Streets, and owns Owens Gift Shop formerly Eldridge Gift Shop. He and wife Laura, KU and Iowa graduates, reside at 1101 W 21st. They have three children: Martin, Justine, and Laura Jane.
