Device Enables Remote Heart Tracings Transmission
Dr. E Grey Dimond at the University of Kansas Medical Center has developed an electronic device that transmits electrocardiograms via telephone lines enabling heart specialists to read a patient’s heart tracing from distant towns. Wednesday’s test sent a tracing from Watkins Memorial Hospital Lawrence to Dimond’s lab in Kansas City. The system may soon link Kansas City with Atlantic City and could save lives by speeding expert diagnoses for patients far from major centers.
