Saigon AP reports US battlefield deaths last week near three year lows at 82, with 384 Saigon government troops and 1,687 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed. South Vietnamese casualties climbed sharply to 1,000 dead and 573 US wounded.

They warn by November 5 any work would be too late for Apollo 12. They await NASA approval as Houston leadership shifts and Cape Kennedy contact resumes.
The House Armed Services Committee endorsed President Nixon's lottery draft plan 31 to 0, sending it to the House floor. An effort to end all college draft deferments failed 21 to 10. Defense officials urged the plan as the fairest method, detailing a September or October lottery to rank 365 birthdates for 19-year-olds with early draws likely drafting in January.
George Rol land Kennelly, 43, of Wichita, was sentenced to three life terms after pleading guilty to first degree murder, forcible rape, and grand larceny. Two life terms run consecutively for the strangling of landlady Mary C. Turner, 83, on June 19. The judge denied parole eligibility.
Kansas traffic death log reports 568 fatalities for October by 9 am Thursday. It compares 1969 with 1968 counts, showing 488 deaths in the same period last year. An earlier fatality was not previously reported.
Beallsville Ohio has sent 21 of 450 residents to Vietnam with six killed and six still serving. Mayor Gramlich voiced support for the war effort on Moratorium Day. James R. Conrad, 29, of Haysville, was injured when a 25 foot utility pole he was working on toppled near Ninth and Hilltop. He suffered head internal and leg injuries, was operated on, and remained in LMH ICU in poor condition. Ontario firm Power Constructors, under Kansas Power and Light Co., installed new street lights. Lawrence police also reported two break-ins at local firms. Pippert's Auto Supply saw tools stolen after a window break.

Danny Roland Jennings 23 of Eudora died from injuries sustained in a one car crash two miles north of Eudora in Leavenworth County. The accident led investigators to report the car overturned and skidded 300 feet. Jennings worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and served four years in the Army. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Eudora Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery.
