Tokyo reports reflect a society eager for bread and reform as Japan drafts a peaceful constitution. Nippon workers demand relief from occupation while General MacArthur outlines demobilization. Former military leaders confess weaknesses and failed weapons as U.S. officers inventory Japan’s ruined war machine.
General MacArthur announced in a world broadcast that Japan’s demobilization is complete with about 7 million personnel discharged. He noted stopping Japan’s armed forces and warned restoration of dignity will take time, calling for patience and free life in the empire. He praised American restraint and the unity of ground, sea, and air forces as the path to lasting peace.
Topeka report notes 15 north region oat lots inspected in two weeks, 33 rejected for field bindweed seeds. Mrs Martha Franklin's federal suit against the OPA seeks a pennyless billion dollars in damages over rent ceiling violations from 1944 45.
