The 87th Congress adjourned over the weekend signaling a post session tug of war over its record ahead of the November election. It approved parts of Kennedy's agenda while denying others and faced bipartisan critique over its spending and control.
After two weeks of unseasonably warm weather in Lawrence, a sharp cold front arrives with a forecast of much colder temperatures and showers. Tuesday highs near 60 follow 70s and 80s, with tonight’s lows around 45 to 50. The five day outlook shows below normal temps through Saturday and beyond.
Nine Kansas University students were paroled after a weekend in jail for vandalism at an empty house a mile south of Perry. They pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Court to vandalism and were sentenced to 30 days in jail with eight months' probation. Names were not released by officials.

Actress Lana Turner was granted a Mexican divorce today from her fifth husband, businessman Fred May. Judge Miguel Gomez Guerra in Juarez approved the divorce after a brief hearing citing incompatibility. The couple wed in November 1960 and separated recently.
