Echo I skin sample sent by KU grad Hood
J Hood Manley, Kansas University graduate, sent his parents a sample of Echo I satellite skin. The 100 foot balloon was seen over Lawrence as it orbits Earth every 2 hours 144 minutes. The Mylar skin is under one thousandth of an inch thick with a vapor coated aluminum layer. Hood works at Ames Laboratory near San Francisco and is part of a UN committee on peaceful space uses.

Albert A Green 76 Dies Friday at Med Center
Albert Arnold Green longtime Lawrence merchant and Civic leader died Friday evening at the Kansas City Medical Center after abdominal surgery. He and his brother built Green Brothers Hardware from a farm supply start in 1912 in Lawrence. Funeral Monday at Rumsey Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. He survived by wife two daughters a sister and brother plus several nieces and nephews.

Jury Deadlocked in Red Foley Tax Trial
A federal court jury in Springfield failed to reach a verdict in the income tax case of entertainer Clyde Julian Red Foley. The eight to four deadlock led to jurors being discharged with a second trial set for the April term. Prosecutors alleged Foley evaded over 28000 dollars in taxes for 1954 and 1955.
